"I'll be always flagged as a queer guy of some sort in this taboo-infested country, where there is just one (known) bar where crossdressers are "accepted", in the middle of the LGBT and BDSM communities. Podes-me indicar que bar é esse? Onde fica, etc?

Aww Jenlee — I truly thank you for your time in posting such a long comment. Yes, it truly seems that we're, to a degree, kindred souls, which as you point out, may not be so surprising after all.

Yes, my "ranting" above was really a reaction to a bad (online) experience. After some thoughts I think that, since I'm not used to being discriminated or publicly insulted when not crossdressed, the whole issue of "discrimination" was just something I read about and "happened to other people". It's very different when it happens to oneself!

Naturally, this made me think about my whole attitude. Have I been a hypocrite when saying that I despised discrimination and basically believed that fundamental aspect of human rights that states that you cannot discriminate people by colour, race, creed, and, naturally, gender? Well... this was something that I definitely proclaimed very loudly and endeavoured to truly believe in... but it's so different when it happens to oneself!

I think I've learned my lesson on that day. How lucky of me, however, unlike so many others, that I can stash my "gender" in a closet and be part of the "mainstream". So many others who are discriminated by other reasons sadly cannot do the same.

No, I also don't believe that our society will openly embrace and accept crossdressing in public :) There is something quite strange about male crossdressers. As some girl on a video in YouTube once said, when asked about her feelings about crossdressing — "well, I crossdress every day — my clothes are usually male clothes". She was right. We've accepted that genetic women are able to dress in male clothes all the time. "Unisex wear" is actually male clothing that fits either genetic sex quite well — a T-shirt and a pair of jeans — and we have gone quite a long way to accept that. We also accept a masculine behaviour in genetic females: they can yell, swear in public, move ungracefully, smoke, or behave as utter jerks in the company of friends and family. They've conquered something precious that was beyond their reach and wildest dreams in a much sterner and forbidding society, oh, a hundred years ago or so. We don't "expect" a "feminine behaviour" from genetic females any more — they can exhibit it or not, it's their choice, and they won't be discriminated for that.

The reverse will sadly never be true, or at least, not in our lifetimes. "Metrosexuals" are barely tolerated, and although a gay behaviour is not discriminated as strongly as it used to be, there is quite a difference between that and what we crossdressers like to exhibit: a true feminine behaviour, in public, fully dressed as a female. Our society is still too much obsessed with gender roles tied to genetic sex, and it will be many, many years until that obsession is ever lifted or even tolerated.

But... we survive... in private, where we're still allowed to pretty much do whatever we please — thankfully! :)
